01/27/26- Saint Louis University researcher Vasit Sagan, Ph.D., a professor of geospatial science and computer science and associate vice president for geospatial science, will be honored by The Academy of Science - St. Louis with the George Engelmann Interdisciplinary Award for Collaborative Science Achievement.
12/15/25- Saint Louis University is part of a multi-disciplinary team, led by the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, to deepen the understanding of sorghum, a versatile bioenergy crop, and its response to environmental challenges.
11/06/25- Saint Louis University, along with The Ohio State University and Purdue University, will establish a new, innovative industry-university cooperative research center.
09/23/25- Vasit Sagan, Ph.D., was awarded a five-year National Science Foundation Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers (IUCRC) award.
09/16/25- SLU's Remote Sensing Lab is now a coalition member of Climate TRACE, a global coalition focused on tracking greenhouse gas emissions, building the world’s largest and most comprehensive emissions inventory to provide accurate and transparent data.
04/01/24- Saint Louis University is one of five universities that will be studying permafrost under a grant from the US Department of Defense.
03/25/24- SLU is one of five universities working together to study permafrost using hyperspectral remote sensing, as part of a grant funded by the Department of Defense through its Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program.
09/01/23- SLU has received a $1 million grant from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to create a satellite calibration network to improve the accuracy of satellite observations and the geospatial tools used to monitor global change, infrastructure resilience and natural disasters.
01/05/22- Vasit Sagan sat down with HEC Media's Dennis Riggs to discuss GeoSLU's research and how GeoSLU is educating talent that will need to be recruited to support this booming industry
09/03/21- Kemba Noel-London used geospatial data in her doctoral research to discover disparities in access to youth sports throughout the St. Louis region. She is the first recipient of the Geospatial Health Certificate at Saint Louis University.
02/03/21- SLU's Geospatial Institute has been awarded $5 million to train the Department of Defense and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in geoinformatics and geospatial data sciences.
04/23/20- The U.S. Department of the Interior has named Saint Louis University’s Vasit Sagan, Ph.D., to a three-year appointment on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC).
02/11/20- Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, has entered into a new partnership with Saint Louis University and GeoSLU to advance geospatial innovation and training.
01/15/20- GeoSLU's Ness Sandoval, Ph.D., associate faculty director of the Institute, and SLU's Shawn Steadman, director of SLU's emergency management program, were guests on "St. Louis on the Air" to discuss the Australian wildfires and how GeoSLU is working to track such natural disasters.
11/09/19- The American Geographical Society (AGS) has awarded Michael Rozier, S.J., Ph.D., assistant professor of health management and policy at Saint Louis University's College for Public Health and Social Justice, an EthicalGEO Fellowship as a result of the Society's recent EthicalGEO Challenge.
10/10/19- Results of a new survey conducted by the St. Louis Mosaic Project and Ness Sandoval, Ph.D., associate professor at SLU and associate director of GeoSLU, show that foreign-born populations are continuing to choose St. Louis as a place to call home.
10/08/19- Saint Louis University has established a new Geospatial Institute to support and accelerate research, training, and innovation in geospatial science and technology. Also known as GeoSLU, the Institute will further establish St. Louis as a hub for these rapidly growing fields while promoting research ideas to respond to the challenges of today.
09/26/19- Ness Sandoval, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology and anthropology and associate director of GeoSLU, was interviewed about migration in the St. Louis area, as well regional population and wealth trends.
02/14/19- Saint Louis University aims to become the world’s leading Catholic, Jesuit research university, according to Ken Oliff, vice president for research at SLU.
