Global Perspectives: Students Share Lessons from International Internships
Each year, the Center for International and Comparative Law helps place students in various international law internships after the Summer Law Program in Madrid. This summer, nine Saint Louis University School of Law students gained valuable legal experience through internships abroad. Our students spent the summer working with law firms and organizations across Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, applying what they learned in the classroom to real-world practice.
This summer, 18 law students took part in the SLU LAW Summer Law Program in Madrid, one of the school’s signature international experiences. The ABA-approved summer law program offered an intensive combination of classroom learning and cultural immersion, giving students a firsthand look at European legal systems and international law in practice. Students in the Summer Law Program in Madrid are afforded the opportunity to particpate in an international internship following the completion of their courses.

Students worked in a variety of settings and practice areas, including international arbitration, corporate law, and cross-border transactions. Their placements included:
- Charlie Kruljac – Winston & Strawn, Paris
- Eli Benner and Alexa Anderson – FPS Law, Hamburg, Germany
- Shuchita Sangra and Logan Redden – Fieldfisher, Barcelona, Spain
- Ollie Crader – MKA Nosko, Prague
- Grant Kramer and Ken Heyden – ECIJA, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- Justin Fuller – Grandway Law, Shanghai
1L Charlie Kruljac (’27), stated: “I had the privilege of spending five weeks at Winston & Strawn's Paris office, working in their corporate department. Warmly welcomed by the whole team, I prepared legal research memos for regulatory compliance with French and EU law, assisted in preparing regulatory filings with multiple partners, and reviewed documents in French and English. Having an interest in international and immigration law, this opportunity was tremendous for improving my French language ability and experiencing cross-border transaction work while working and living in the French culture. The internship was highly engaging and formative for my career, and I leave with gratitude, meaningful legal experience, and rich relationships with the people at Winston Paris.”

1L Justin Fuller (’27), reflected on his experience in Shanghai:
“I had a great time at my internship with Grandway Law Offices in Shanghai. I worked on a variety of cross-border deals — from helping establish joint corporate entities to drafting an employee stock option plan. In my free time, I enjoyed connecting with local attorneys and professionals, making new friends, and tasting the delicious local cuisine.”
Of the students and their experiences abroad, Professor Constance Wagner, the center's director, said, "The Center for International and Comparative Law is proud of our students for taking on these opportunities and representing SLU LAW on an international level."
