Fraternity and Sorority Life
Fraternities and sororities have been a part of campus life at Saint Louis University since the early 1900s. Membership has grown steadily, and today more than 1,300 men and women belong to over 25 chapters. More than just social organizations, fraternities and sororities are values-based organizations that seek to develop the whole person.
How to Join
SLU Fraternity and Sorority Life is represented by four governing councils that each have a different process for members to join. Check out the joining process for each of our councils. In the meantime, share your interest in joining by completing the General FSL Interest Form so we can connect with you to share more information.
The SLU Panhellenic Council governs all Panhellenic chapters on campus. Each chapter is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.
Primary Recruitment
The Panhellenic Council hosts Fall Primary Recruitment at the beginning of each fall term. The next primary recruitment will take place in September 2026. Prior to the process, we will host meet and greets, orientation, and a chance to learn more about the council and the recruitment process.
Continuous Open Bidding
Outside of primary recruitment in both the fall and spring terms, select chapters participate in continuous open bidding. A chapter participating in COB will typically advertise on its social media and host informational events.

The SLU Interfraternity Council (IFC) governs all fraternal chapters currently or historically from the North American
Interfraternity Conference.
Formal Recruitment
The Interfraternity Council hosts formal recruitment at the beginning of each term. The next formal recruitment will take place in February 2026. Prior to the process, we will host meet and greets, orientation, and a chance to learn more about the council and the recruitment process.
Continuous Recruitment
Outside of formal recruitment in both the fall and spring terms, select chapters participate in continuous recruitment, also called 365 recruitment. A chapter participating in continuous recruitment will typically advertise on its social media.

The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) governs cultural and identity-based fraternities and sororities. MGC represents a growing part of SLU's Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Currently, the Multicultural Greek Council represents South Asian interest groups and welcomes new opportunities to support additional SLU students' identities.
MGC organizations conduct their membership selection, known as the membership intake process, independently and at different times. Chapters typically hold a formal interest meeting for prospective new members.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) governs historically Black fraternities and sororities, also known as the "Divine 9." NPHC organizations were founded with ties to the traditions and values of Black culture. While their values celebrate and support the Black experience, our NPHC organizations are inclusive to members of all identities.

De Mattias Hall
SLU’s home for Fraternity and Sorority Life is in De Mattias Hall, a residence hall that provides a great opportunity for sorority and fraternity members to live together on campus. De Mattias Hall houses more than 200 students who are members of fraternity or sorority organizations. It also houses a residence life professional, campus minister and student staff.
Most chapters have a designated meeting room in De Mattias Hall, which they use for committee meetings, storage and bonding activities.
