Guest Lecture Explores Open and Reproducible 6G Research with AI
On April 14, Asad Rehman, Ph.D. (Computer Science), invited Rui L. Aguiar, Ph.D., from Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal) to deliver a guest lecture on the future of 6G research and artificial intelligence.
Aguiar presented his talk, "Best Practices for Open and Reproducible 6G Research Exploring AI," to students and faculty interested in emerging communication technologies and the growing role of AI in the field.
He opened the lecture by examining the increasing pressure researchers face to incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning into 6G development. He also highlighted the wide range of techniques currently in use while pointing out the fragmentation across research communities.
Aguiar addressed the challenges created by siloed research practices and urged students to adopt more collaborative and transparent approaches. He argued that researchers must work together more effectively to advance next-generation communication systems.
Aguiar is a full-time professor at Universidade de Aveiro, where he leads the networks and systems area. Throughout his career, he has held international academic positions, contributed to numerous European research projects, and published more than 500 papers. He has also earned recognition as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for his work on novel communication systems.
