Saint Louis University School of Medicine graduate medical education emphasizes a commitment to excellence rooted in Jesuit values. Residents and fellows in the SSM Health/SLU SOM Residency Program learn to think beyond physical symptoms, honing their skills to provide holistic care, tackle disparities and strengthen the St. Louis community they serve.
Setting the Standard for Excellence
The SSM Health/SLU SOM Residency Program trains more than 650 residents and fellows in 70 programs. It produces thoughtful, compassionate, socially engaged leaders and offers valuable experiences, including:

- Service, community engagement and advocacy opportunities
- First-rate teaching hospitals and partner facilities
All residents and fellows are employed by SSM Health and are part of the SLUCare Physician Group — the academic medical practice of Saint Louis University.
The Value of Accreditation
All SSM Health/SLU SOM residency programs are nearly all the fellowship programs are approved and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. These national standards ensure physicians-in-training are being prepared to deliver safe, high-quality medical care.
Non-ACGME fellowships are defined as recognized postgraduate research or clinical programs that have not yet had accreditation standards and specific subspeciality board requirements developed. These programs are approved by SSM Health/SLU SOM's Graduate Medical Education Committee.
