Lifesaving Trauma and Critical Care Surgery

The Division of Emergency Medicine uses a team approach to provide patients and families with the best possible emergency care. It’s located within SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in St. Louis with certifications in Missouri and Illinois.

  • 50,000-plus patients per year 
  • 3,500-plus trauma cases per year 
  • Acuity level higher than the national average 

All full-time faculty are board-certified/eligible in emergency medicine, and nurses are Trauma Nursing Core Course-trained. Rooted in the University’s Jesuit values, the division is committed to pursuing educational excellence and upholding the highest standards of patient dignity.
